Shrewsbury Town 1-1 Oxford United

Jack Price's stunning late strike helped relegation-battling Shrewsbury Town earn a draw with League One play-off hopefuls Oxford United.

Billy Bodin fired Oxford into a second-half lead but they dropped out of the top six after Price volleyed home his 83rd-minute equaliser.

In a quiet opening 15 minutes, Oxford had the first opportunity through Mark Harris, who was played through on goal but denied by goalkeeper Marko Marosi.

Shrewsbury's Aiden O'Brien received a low ball into the box from Dan Udoh on the half-hour mark, but his timid effort was parried clear by Jamie Cumming.

The U's broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half when Josh Murphy brought down a long ball, went around the keeper before getting pushed wide and sent in a low cross to Harris, who laid it off to Bodin to smash home.

But the hosts equalised through substitute Price's 20-yard volley.

Oxford came close to retaking the lead from the kick-off when Bodin had an edge-of-the-box effort pushed away.

Cameron Brannagan then had a follow-up shot, but Morgan Feeney made a last-ditch clearance to edge the the home side a point closer to safety.

Very entertaining game. Both sides played well, lots of chances. Us Shrews were hanging on a bit at the end, but I think we were just about good enough for the draw. Excellent support from Oxford, filled the away stand and made plenty of noise - true fans, very impressive. Lots of respectful banter. There have been some dismal games at the meadow this season, thankfully not this one.!

Having Tom Flanagan back has made a difference to us, all of our defenders did well today though to gain a most welcome point, especially with several teams below us winning today, lets hope we can get something from the Bristol Rovers match.

We'll only know by the end of the season just how important Jack Price's goal was for us today, it gained us a very important point against a good Oxford side hopeful of a play off place.

3 points today would have been useful. It makes our "big week", when we play Lincoln, Posh and Stevenage even more vital. Let's see how we come out of that. Then we will know if we really are good enough.

Another mediocre performance by the sounds of it. From 2nd to 7th in just a few months, it's obvious that Des is not the right man for the job. Can't wait for the season to end.

Des Buckingham is a terrible manager.

Oxford’s decline is almost entirely down to his unbelievably naive tactics.

Oh, and his January transfer window. In which he signed a goalkeeper worse than Eastwood, an injured midfielder who hadn’t played for a year, an injured striker who cost £400k, and a winger who apparently doesn’t play football at all…

Must add great draw for shrewsbury playing against 14 men including yet again very poor officials that shouldnt even be in national league never mind league 1.

Thought the ref was OK today to be fair. We (Salop) were a shambles for large parts of the game. Lucky to get a point in my opinion.
