Wigan to take on both Manchester clubs in race for teen talent

According to ClubCall, via Norwegian publication Telemark, Wigan Athletic are putting themselves firmly into a race with Manchester City and Manchester United as they track Norwegian starlet Filip Moller Delaveris of Odds BK.

The 18-year-old sensation, who plays on the left of a front three, has been named as a starter in tonight’s game against Valeranga. This will be his 13th Eliteserien appearance of the season, a season where he has already scored three goals and provided two assists.

That performance in the top-tier of Norwegian football is only a part tale of his exploits so far this season. He’s featured in 12 PostNord-ligaen (third-tier) games for Odds BK, scoring five times. Add to that four games (two goals) in the Norwegian cup and it is a 10-goal season for the talented youngster.

With such a return, it is not hard to see just why there is such interest in him from Manchester City and Manchester United as well as from their near-neighbours Wigan Athletic. The youngster is also a two-cap Norway Under-20 international after stepping up from the Under-18s where he scored twice in five appearances.

In Norway, there has been a degree of controversy with his manager, Dag Eilev Fagermo, going on record and accusing youngster Delaveris of being “greedy” in his contract negotiations with the club. This outburst, shocking to some as it is, is an outburst backed by Odds BK’s sporting director.

With club and player said to be at odds off the field, and with talent being displayed on the field, then it is no surprise that teams outside of Norway are taking interest in the young attacker and his situation.
