Josh Murphy inspired Oxford to an emphatic 5-0 win over Peterborough that keeps them on track for the League One play-offs.

Despite being without key players Elliott Moore and Cameron Brannagan, the U's were brimming with confidence following successive four-goal wins, and were three up by the break.

They took the lead in the 19th minute when Jadel Katongo fouled Murphy in the box and Mark Harris blasted home the spot-kick.

Murphy headed in keeper Jed Steer's clearance to make it 2-0 just after the half hour, and the pacy midfielder created the third in the 39th minute for Ruben Rodrigues, who finished neatly from 12 yards.

Owen Dale also hit the post and missed an open goal before the interval, with Oxford dominant.

Posh had chances too, Ricky-Jade Jones missing from close range and striking the underside of the bar from Ephron Mason-Clark's cross.

Visiting boss Darren Ferguson showed his displeasure by hauling off four players at the interval, but Rodrigues met Finn Stevens' cross with a sublime diving header after 58 minutes to make it 4-0.

Greg Leigh then hit the post before substitute Billy Bodin completed the rout in the 89th minute with a fine individual effort.

A McEachran master class; best performance in the shirt… well played Sir, you ran the midfield & controlled the entire game! It could have been 6 or 7 but no complaints here. A very good Peterborough were made to look average, they’ll not be that bad in the play offs so won’t get too carried away. However, 13-0 over 3 games is ruthless form and you just never know🤞Well done, Yellows……. Superb ⚽️

Whilst the focus will be on the result and the hunt for the playoffs, the real interest for OUFC has been off the field regarding the new stadium.

Without it the club won’t survive. Any help from any source in putting positive comments on the planning portal on the CDC website would be helpful. Do it now!

Hugely enjoyable & impressive game. First 15 mins were crazy. Both teams cld have scored & might have been very diffrent if one of Posh’s chances had put them ahead. But once OUFC took lead they looked very classy. The OUFC high press really disrupted Posh - ruined their game plan & gave OUFC opportunities that led to goals. Murphy outstanding. But whole team excellent. & fans/atmosphere fab!

I owe Des an apology. I was too quick to judge his tenure. Right now he’s doing better than Manning ever did - this was our best game of the season so far. Credit where it’s due. Well done Des, COYY, and bring on the playoffs!

That was the acid test as to whether we really had turned the corner and it was passed in some style. Well done Des, the team and the fans, a good day to be an Oxford fan. Nothing achieved yet, but the signs are very positive.

So, the players are starting to get the style
High press, break with speed, Murphy loving it.
After the Pompey game, I think that’s when the players thought, if we can master that style, it might get us results, and tbh , Oxford were the better team that day, the crowd got PFC over the line
But it works, and Ferguson is probably thinking right now, what the hell happened today

Whether they go up or not they simply have to get out of that godawful stadium. It must put away fans off.

What should be a cracking way trip to a fantastic city is turned into one of the worst by that remote monstrosity.

I swear it has it's own microclimate in the away stand near the open end. On a bad day it can actually be colder, windier & wetter inside the freaking stadium.
